Switching from Windows to Mac on Lanzarote

Thinking of moving to a Mac but unsure which one, how to get your files across, or whether your old programs will still work? I have deep experience in both worlds and can help make the switch as smooth as possible.
Switching from Windows to Mac on Lanzarote

Off Windows and onto a Mac, without losing anything

The first step of the switch is choosing the right model. I match the Mac to what you actually do rather than to a spec sheet, so you are not overpaying or running into outdated software a year later.

Second is the transfer itself: your files, photos, mail, contacts, browser bookmarks and settings moved from the Windows machine to the Mac. Where a Windows program has no Mac version, we work out equivalents and set them up.

The last part of the move, the one that decides whether you actually end up enjoying the Mac, is understanding it. I sit with you and explain where to find things, how the trackpad and Finder work, and how your accounts fit together, in your language and at your pace.

Common situations people find themselves in

Tired of a slow, cluttered Windows laptop

Ready for a fresh start but wary of losing anything in the jump.

Everyone in the household is on Apple already

An iPhone and iPad that would work better alongside a Mac.

Worried the old programs will not exist on Mac

Most have a Mac version or a reasonable alternative, and I map that out before you buy.

Bought or planning to buy a Mac and stuck at setup

Migration, Apple ID and email are where the switch usually runs into problems.

Not sure which Mac to get at all

The process

How it works

1

Tell me the problem

Send me a message with what's happening. Add as much detail as you can - photos, error messages, deadline, etc.

2

Free upfront estimate

I give you an estimate of cost and chances of success. If the estimate changes at any time in the process, you hear it immediately.

3

Upfront payment

I send you a payment link that covers the call-out fee. If we work remotely, there is no fee.

4

I handle it

We meet, or work remotely. Diagnosis, sourcing, setup, data rescue, delivery. You get frequent updates.

5

After-care

Where appropriate, you receive documentation and proper explanations. An official invoice follows.

Frequently asked questions

How fast can you respond?

I can't always promise an instant reply, but it's typically the same day, often within a few hours, and often outside normal business hours. Tell me your deadline and you get a realistic answer on whether I can meet it.

Why is there an upfront payment?

Upfront payment confirms the job and I reserve a time slot for you. You receive a transparent estimat, no part of the cost is hidden.

Do you work with companies or just individuals?

Both. I issue a proper Spanish invoice in my own name (NIF-supported, 7% Canary Islands VAT/IGIC included), which is easily claimable as a business expense.

What if you can't fix the problem?

You get a realistic estimate of success before we start, and I do everything I can to make it work. However, as a general rule, time worked is time billed regardless of outcome, and travel, sourcing and delivery are part of the agreed price. If the estimate changes while I work, you hear about it immediately and get to choose whether to continue or not.

How much does it cost?

A €50 call-out fee anywhere on the island, then €1.50 per minute of work. Residents get 25% off, and there are discounts for larger or recurring jobs. You get an upfront estimate and will be updated immediately should the estimate change.

How are warranties handled when you source hardware?

I do not put any markup on the hardware I purchase for you: you get the original receipt from the store in your name or your company's name. As a consequence, I do not handle any resulting warranty issues. If it turns out the hardware purchase has a manufacturing defect, the store or manufacturer is responsible. While I will of course help you sort out the issue, I am not liable for the warranty in any way.

Which areas of Lanzarote do you cover?

The whole island. Travel is included in your estimate. There's a single €50 call-out fee wherever you are on Lanzarote. The call-out fee does not apply when the job is remote.

Do we have to meet at my house or accommodation?

No. We can meet wherever you want, including in a cafe, coworking space, or any other public place. Whatever works best for you.

Can a family member arrange and pay for the visit?

Absolutely. A son or daughter often books the visit and settles the estimate, and I keep them updated if they would like.

Can you help in my language?

I can help you in English, German, Finnish and Spanish.

What's your cancellation policy?

Once an appointment is booked, cancellation fee is €50 - I have to make time, arrange travel, and reject other jobs.

How do I pay, and do I get an invoice?

Cash, all major cards including Mastercard, Visa and Maestro, and mobile wallets such as Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay, in person. For remote work you can pay by bank transfer or a Stripe payment link. I'm a registered Spanish autónomo, so you receive a proper invoice including 7% Canary Islands VAT (IGIC).
